Geoff Harvey – The Highlands Loses One Of Its Greats
Geoff Harvey, one of the Southern Highlands’ most loved community members, sadly passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2019.
While I didn’t personally know Geoff, like all in the Highlands, I knew that he was much loved by our community. Aged 83, Geoff had lived in Berrima for many years. He made such a mark on our beautiful region, The Gibralter Hotel named Harvey’s Bar in his honour.
Geoff Harvey – Everyone’s Friend
Despite his acclaim and celebrity, down-to-earth Geoff would always stop and say hello to strangers along Bong Bong street. He also happily taught young children how to play piano.
Fellow entertainer and long-time Highlands local, Geraldine Turner said: “Geoff was a darling of a man. We worked together on many occasions, on many different TV shows, from the Don Lane Show, The Mike Walsh Show and The Midday Show. He was a consummate professional and a true gentleman. Always wonderful to work with, he made even the most arduous performances seem like fun. The entertainment community, as the rest of Australia, will miss him greatly.”
Ex- Miss Universe Australia, Leanne Buckle, remembered Geoff as a “witty, big hearted gentleman.” His son-in-law Andy Thornton said he was, “a truly wonderful man, great bandleader, composer, pianist and comedian. Rest in Peace, dear Soldier.”
Geoff was a recipient of the Medal of the Order of Australia during the 2006 Queen’s Birthday Honours for “service to the community as a musician and entertainer, and through support for charitable organisations.”
My heart goes out to Geoff’s family and loved ones at this difficult time.
Love, Di xx
